Why Epoxy Flooring Fits the Aspen Lifestyle
In a place like Aspen, where an active, outdoor lifestyle is common, you need floors that can handle everything from ski gear and muddy boots to heavy equipment. Epoxy flooring stands out for several reasons:
- Built Tough: Epoxy floors are engineered to resist impacts, foot traffic, and even the wear and tear from sports gear or vehicles. This makes them ideal for garages, home gyms, and entryways where dirt and gear from the great outdoors are frequent.
- Moisture and Stain Resistant: With epoxy’s non-porous surface, spills and moisture are no problem. Whether it’s snowmelt from winter activities or dirt from hiking, epoxy floors are easy to clean and won’t soak up moisture like other surfaces.
- Low Maintenance: Busy lifestyles don’t leave much time for cleaning. Epoxy’s smooth surface makes it quick and easy to maintain—just a simple sweep or mop will do the trick.
- Customizable Finishes: Choose from a variety of finishes, colors, and styles to match your aesthetic. Whether you want a high-gloss finish or something more rugged for your workshop or garage, epoxy floors can be customized to fit your needs.
Where to Use Epoxy Flooring in Aspen
With its versatility, epoxy flooring is perfect for a variety of applications around the home or business:
- Garage Floors: Protect your garage from oil stains, tire marks, and heavy traffic, while giving it a polished, professional appearance.
- Basements: Aspen’s seasonal changes can mean moisture buildup in basements. Epoxy’s moisture resistance keeps the space dry and usable for a gym, storage, or extra living area.
- Patios and Outdoor Spaces: Epoxy (with a polyaspartic topcoat) is ideal for outdoor spaces like patios and pool decks, as the UV-resistant properties ensure that it won’t fade or crack under the Colorado sun.
- Home Workshops and Gyms: With its durability and easy-to-clean surface, epoxy is perfect for high-use areas like workshops, home gyms, or hobby spaces where tough gear and equipment are used frequently.
Commercial Opportunities for Epoxy Flooring in Aspen
Aspen’s commercial spaces can also benefit from epoxy flooring’s durability and aesthetic appeal. Whether you manage a retail shop, restaurant, or fitness studio, epoxy floors provide a sleek, professional look that’s built to last. In industrial or service-based businesses, epoxy’s resistance to chemicals, stains, and heavy machinery ensures that the floor can handle the daily demands without constant repairs or upkeep. Its customizable nature allows you to incorporate your brand’s colors or create safety zones to improve the functionality of your space.
The Two-Day Installation Process
Many companies offer 1-day polyurea installations, but while the quick turnaround may seem appealing, these rushed jobs often come with hidden problems. One-day installations use a thin coat of a quick-curing polyurea (or polyaspartic) as the direct-to-concrete base coat. They cure so quickly in the presence of concrete moisture (< 1 hr) that they don’t deeply penetrate the concrete slab. The thin, poor-penetrating primer leads to common moisture-related issues like peeling and premature wear. (Which is why they don’t warrant “moisture-related issues”). This is especially true in high-traffic areas or places exposed to moisture, like garages and basements. Over time, these shortcuts can cost more in repairs and replacements than the initial installation saved.
We believe in doing it right the first time, which is why we follow a detailed two-day installation process. On day one, we thoroughly prep the surface by diamond-grinding the concrete to create the perfect canvas. We then apply a slow-curing, high-build, moisture-mitigating epoxy primer coat – it acts as a moisture vapor barrier. The last task on Day 1 is to broadcast the chosen flake blend into the wet primer coat in a full flake spread.
On Day 2, we apply two separate 100%-solids polyaspartic topcoats to provide extreme UV protection and chemical resistance. This method creates a thick, moisture-mitigating coating system that can handle the demands of any space.
